Introduction to Safer Multiple-Plate Color Intaglio
In this intensive three-day workshop, students will become acquainted with the art of multiple-plate color intaglio. Mary Cassatt created beautiful intaglios using multiple plates. Cassatt however, used traditional materials, which necessitate the use of highly volatile, and often times very toxic solvents. We will be working exclusively with new and safer materials. Artists will be introduced to a variety of techniques from the beginning to advanced level. The techniques will include ways in which to plan out a multiple-plate image, make the plates and tips on proper registration during printing. As a prerequisite, students should have completed Introduction to Safer Intaglio. Completion of Introduction to Safer Aquatint Etching is recommended but not mandatory. For the final project, each student will create an edition, which will result in an exchange portfolio.
